Party app for your Apple TV

Your music. Their requests.

Get this party started

PartyЯ turns your Apple TV into the jukebox of your party, with all your sources in one queue. Guests scan the QR code and request a song, you call the shots on your iPhone.

  • YouTube
  • Apple Music
  • Spotify
  • Own clips from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby, or via Infuse

You and your guests search all sources at once. The connection to YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify is part of Pro; you use your own subscriptions to those services.

For Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch
Why PartyЯ

No laptop next to the TV. No fiddling with cables. Just party.

You have an Apple TV under the television. PartyЯ plays your own music videos on it, in picture and sound. With Pro, PartyЯ also works with YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify; you use your own subscriptions to those services. Your guests pick songs with their phones and you call the shots.

How it works

Three steps to get going.

Put PartyЯ Beheer on your iPhone, choose how you play and press Start. Your guests scan the QR code and can make requests straight away.

PartyЯ’s start screen on the TV: the logo, the number of clips in the library, the Start PartyЯ button and settings such as the QR code and the transition between songs, with a large QR code on the right and the text Scan to request a clip.
The start screen of the PartyЯ app on the Apple TV. On the real screen the QR code leads to the guest page; in this image it leads to this website.
  1. Step 1

    Choose how you play

When you start, PartyЯ Beheer asks: how do you play? With the PartyЯ app on the Apple TV, which plays your own clips from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby itself; that is how you play with Easy. With Pro you can also use your iPhone or iPad as a remote, which has the Apple TV open the right app for each song, or play via Home Assistant.

  2. Step 2

    Link your own library

Choose Plex, Jellyfin or Emby. For Plex, enter the code from the TV at plex.tv/link. With Jellyfin, use Quick Connect or your username and password; with Emby, sign in with your username and password. Then choose the library containing your clips.

  3. Step 3

    Start the party

Press Start. The QR code appears in the corner of the screen. If nobody requests anything, PartyЯ picks from your chosen party playlist or favourites without immediately repeating a song that just played.

  4. Then

    Guests request, you manage

Requests come first. With PartyЯ Beheer, you skip a song, remove it from the queue, move it to play next or pause the party.

All mixed together

One queue. All your sources.

In the phone mode of Pro, songs from YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify and your own clips sit together in one queue and one playlist. You use your own subscriptions to those services. PartyЯ switches app by itself for each song: from YouTube to Apple Music, then to Spotify, then to your own clip. You and your guests don’t have to switch anything.

Search everything at once

One search field for all connected sources. Filter by source (All, Own clips, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube) and by Video, Audio or Both. Guests on the guest page also search all sources that are switched on.

Music without video joins in

If a song has no clip, it simply plays as music on the Apple TV. Even when PartyЯ picks by itself, you decide: video, audio or both.

From song to song

Consecutive Apple Music songs run into each other without a gap. Between two of your own clips there’s a smooth transition. PartyЯ follows what the Apple TV reports and never cuts a song short.

Everything through the Apple TV

Picture and sound come from the Apple TV, whichever app is playing. Keep PartyЯ Beheer open during the party; your phone’s screen stays on.

The guest page on a phone, showing the queue: Daft Punk, One More Time is playing now, followed by ABBA, Pharrell Williams and Bruno Mars, each with the estimated wait and the name of whoever requested it, and then automatically Kool and The Gang, Celebration. Below the search box, the clips by artist.
Searching on the guest page: the search term tiesto, without the dots on the e, finds fourteen clips by Tiësto, each with a Request button.

For guests

Scan, search, request. No app needed.

Guests point their phone’s camera at the QR code and land on the guest page. It runs in your home, on your own Wi-Fi. With Pro monthly, guests can also request over mobile data. No account, no download.

  • They search all sources that are switched on: YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify and your own clips.
  • Hassle-free search: ‘tiesto’ finds Tiësto, even without accents or punctuation.
  • They can see what’s playing now and roughly when their song is coming up.
  • Adding a name is optional.
  • One request per phone every twenty seconds. You set that waiting time yourself.
  • Guests can only make requests. You do the managing, with PartyЯ Beheer.
The TV screen during the party: a small QR code at the top right with Scan to request a clip, and at the bottom the title Daft Punk, One More Time, requested by Sanne, the playing time and what’s coming up next.
The party screen. The clip plays in the middle; here, a mood shot of a crowd stands in for the clip.
On the big screen

Everyone sees what’s playing.

When the PartyЯ app plays on the Apple TV, the title, who requested the song and what’s up next appear at the bottom. The QR code stays in the corner, so anyone who arrives later can join in straight away.

  • QR code always on screen, only at the start and end of a song, or off.
  • Small, normal or large: you choose how eye-catching the QR code is.
  • Smooth transition between songs, from off up to twelve seconds, for picture and sound.
The host app on the iPhone: at the top, the current song with a bar to move through the song and buttons for pause, ten seconds back or forward, next and stop. Below that, the queue, with buttons for each song to favourite, move to the top, move up, move down and remove.
For the host

You call the shots.

With PartyЯ Beheer on your iPhone or iPad you steer the party without walking over to the TV. The app finds the Apple TV on your network by itself; you pair using the code the TV shows.

  • One search field for all sources, with filters per source and for video, audio or both.
  • Arrange the queue: move to the top, up, down or remove.
  • Next song, pause, ten seconds back or forward, or drag the bar to move through the song.
  • Request a song yourself. As the host you always can, even if it’s already played tonight.
  • Waiting time for guests, from none to ten minutes.
  • Choose whether guests can request a song again if it’s already played tonight.
The host app

Everything at your fingertips.

Pairing screen of the host app: a large input field for the four-digit pairing code and the Pair button.
PairingEnter the code shown on the TV. After three wrong attempts, a new one appears.
Playlists in the host app: choose from the whole library, favourites or a list. Party Time is ticked; there is also an 80s list and one for Sanne’s birthday, plus buttons to create, paste or import lists.

Settings in the host app: at the top, playlists, blocked clips and trimmed clips; below that, the name of the TV, the QR code on the TV with the size small, normal or large, twenty seconds between requests, and requesting played songs again.

On your wrist too

Next song? Just tap.

PartyЯ Beheer has an Apple Watch app. It controls the party through your iPhone. Handy when you’re on the dance floor yourself.

  • The current song with the time remaining, pause and next.
  • The queue: swipe to remove a song or move it to the top.
  • A tap on your wrist with every action.
PartyЯ Easy

The whole party with your own clips.

With Easy you play your own clips from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby on one Apple TV. Everything for the party is included: the queue, the guest page with QR code, the host app on your iPhone, and PartyЯ picks a song itself when nobody requests anything. You buy Easy once.

PartyЯ Pro

Connect your own music apps.

Everything in Easy, plus the connection to your external music apps and to Home Assistant. You use your own subscriptions to those services. With multi-play, one party plays on several Apple TVs at once. At home, in the pub or at the club. Buy Pro once, for life. Or take Pro monthly, with the first 14 days free.

For techies

PartyЯ in Home Assistant.

Got Home Assistant? With Pro, PartyЯ runs in it too. The integration is free to install but only works with Pro: pair the host app on your iPhone, and Home Assistant knows you have Pro.

Pro only

You install the PartyЯ integration for Home Assistant for free, but it only works with Pro. Once you pair PartyЯ Beheer, the integration knows you have Pro and Home Assistant controls your Apple TVs. With Easy you play with the PartyЯ app on one Apple TV, with your own clips from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby.

All your sources

Via Home Assistant you play your own clips with Infuse, YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify, the last one through Home Assistant’s Spotify integration. With Music Assistant you also get music from TIDAL, Deezer and Qobuz: sound only, to the Apple TV. To search YouTube you need your own YouTube key, free from Google; the instructions are included. You use your own subscriptions to those services.

Choose your TVs

Decide which Apple TV the party plays on: in Home Assistant itself, or in the host app. With multi-play the party plays on several Apple TVs at once. A change applies from the next song.

The same guest page

Guests make requests through the same guest page, on your own Wi-Fi and, with Pro monthly, over mobile data too. The code to pair the host app appears in Home Assistant under notifications.

Home Assistant supports favourites and automatically choosing from your favourites. What it cannot do: smooth transitions, create or import playlists, change the waiting time for guests, block clips or trim their start or end. Those features work with the PartyЯ app on the Apple TV; playlists and smooth transitions between your own clips also work in phone mode.

Where the music comes from

Supported apps.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know.

What do I need?

An Apple TV, an iPhone or iPad with PartyЯ Beheer, and at least one source. With Easy, that’s your own music videos in Plex, Jellyfin or Emby. With Pro you also connect your external music apps, such as YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify, with your own subscriptions: for YouTube your own YouTube key, free from Google; for Apple Music an Apple Music subscription, and for Spotify Spotify Premium. For your own clips, your media server runs on a computer or NAS at home; it needs to be on during the party. Your guests only need their own phone.

What’s the difference between Easy and Pro?

Easy is the whole party with your own clips from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby, played by the PartyЯ app on one Apple TV: the queue, the guest page with QR code, the host app, playlists and favourites, the smooth transition, volume levelling, start and end per song, and blocking. Pro is everything in Easy, plus the connection to your external music apps and to Home Assistant, and multi-play on several Apple TVs. You use your own subscriptions to those services. With Pro monthly, guests can also scan the QR code without Wi-Fi.

Do I need Plex?

No. For your own clips you can use Plex, Jellyfin or Emby with the PartyЯ app on the Apple TV; Easy already does that. If you use Pro to connect your external music apps, such as YouTube, Apple Music or Spotify, a party can also run without your own media server, in phone mode or via Home Assistant. You then use your own subscriptions to those services. Infuse plays your own clips in phone mode and via Home Assistant; Jellyfin and Emby play in phone mode through the PartyЯ app.

Does it work with YouTube?

Yes, with the YouTube connection in Pro: in phone mode or via Home Assistant. The YouTube app on your Apple TV plays the song. You use your own YouTube key: a free code you request from Google yourself. The app explains step by step how. With YouTube Premium you see no ads. Without Premium, YouTube’s ads simply play, and PartyЯ waits until the song has really finished.

Does it work with Apple Music?

Yes. With Pro, PartyЯ works with the Music app on your Apple TV, in phone mode or via Home Assistant. You use your own Apple Music subscription. The Music app plays music videos and regular songs. In phone mode, consecutive Apple Music songs run into each other without a gap.

Does it work with Spotify?

Yes. With Pro, PartyЯ works with the Spotify app on your Apple TV, in phone mode or via Home Assistant. You use your own Spotify Premium. In phone mode you connect your own Spotify app once, with a step-by-step guide in PartyЯ Beheer; Spotify requires this. In Home Assistant it runs through Home Assistant’s own Spotify integration. PartyЯ plays the music video if Spotify has one, otherwise the song as music. You can also bring in a Spotify playlist with Easy, using an export file: PartyЯ then looks up those songs in your own library.

Does it work with Home Assistant?

Yes, with Pro. The PartyЯ integration for Home Assistant is free to install but only works with Pro: pair PartyЯ Beheer on your iPhone, and the integration knows you have Pro. With Easy, PartyЯ works with the PartyЯ app on one Apple TV, with your own clips from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby.

Can I mix YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify?

Yes, in the phone mode of Pro, with your own subscriptions. There is one queue and one playlist, with songs from all sources mixed together, your own clips included. PartyЯ switches app by itself for each song, for example from YouTube to Apple Music, then to Spotify and then to one of your own clips. Songs without a clip simply play as music on the Apple TV.

Are playlists and favourites included in Easy?

Yes. With Easy you make playlists and favourites with your own clips, choose a default party list and bring in lists with an export file, by pasting titles or directly from Plex. With Pro you can also add songs from your external music apps, such as YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify.

Do guests need to install anything?

No. The camera and browser on their phone are enough.

Does it work outside your Wi-Fi?

Yes, with the Pro subscription (Pro monthly): guests can then scan the QR code without Wi-Fi too, over mobile data. With Easy and Pro for life, they need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the Apple TV.

Can I use more than one TV?

Yes, with Pro. With multi-play the same party plays on several Apple TVs at once: one TV leads, the others follow. You set a delay per TV so they stay in sync. Per TV you also choose picture and sound, or picture only, for example when two rooms share one sound system. This works in phone mode and with the Home Assistant integration. Playlists, favourites and blocks are the same on every Apple TV with the same Apple ID.

What if the app on the TV restarts?

If you play with the PartyЯ app on the Apple TV, it restores the current song and queue when it restarts within fifteen minutes. If it takes longer, you start the party again. In phone mode or Home Assistant, the external player may keep playing, but PartyЯ first checks what is happening on the TV after a restart and may ask you to resume the party. Your settings are kept.

For Apple TV, iPhone and iPad

Your music. Their requests.

PartyЯ works on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, with an app for Apple Watch. Choose Easy for the whole party with your own clips, or Pro for the connection to your external music apps: for life, or monthly with 14 days free.
